The Right Wing Get Caught Doing Wrong: The federal government suspended funding to a nationwide program that promotes teenage premarital abstinence through skits and music videos, because the group did not adequately separate religious components from its abstinence message. I am particularly fond of the seemingly unbiased language in the last sentence, stating "The Silver Ring Thing has said that more than 30,000 young people have committed themselves to premarital purity after attending the program's three-hour multimedia presentations." Um, yeah.

I heard a long NPR piece on this group and its founder, and it seems well-meaning enough, but a) overtly Christian and b) totally ineffective. Even he admitted that there is no way to "enforce" the purity pledge, and that kids may not tell the truth about what they are really doing. Whatever happened to the A-to-Z sex ed we had back in the 80's: starting at abstinence, but including every contraceptive under the sun, including the "rhythm method"! And yes, a Bush was in the White House then, too! GRRRRRR!
